Energy Development and Renewable Energy are the industrial driving force behind FS Group’s renewable energy self-generation strategy, and work across the entire renewable energy value chain.
Energy Development is responsible for the origination and development of energy assets, and handles the identification, evaluation and launch of new project opportunities. In line with FS Group’s energy strategies and objectives, this Structure oversees the expansion of the renewable energy production and storage system portfolio, thereby strengthening the self-generation model.
Energy Development’s main activities include:
co-development of renewable energy sources (RES with expert operators outside the Group)
acquisition of energy projects already on the market
coordination of the projects authorisation, technical and financial stages
This Structure is also in charge of identifying new opportunities, technologies and operating models, and to develop innovative solutions and new value propositions to support FS Group’s energy transition.
Renewable Energy works in liaison with Energy Development, and focuses on the system construction and operational management. The Structure is in charge of designing, constructing and managing the renewable energy production and storage systems, in Operation & Maintenance, while coordinating all engineering, construction and operational activities. Its goal is ensuring high industrial performance, operational reliability and an efficient asset integration into FS Group’s energy model, thereby facilitating the transition towards a sustainable self-generation system.
Through FS Energy, FS Group is spearheading the development of photovoltaic plants with a twofold strategic objective: to increase the production of renewable energy, thereby reducing its dependence on the energy market, and to accelerate the decarbonisation of rail transport. Currently, approximately 12 MW of photovoltaic capacity is already in operation at in Padua (approximately 4 MW), Arezzo (approximately 5 MW) and Foggia (approximately 3 MW). Further power stations are currently being developed and built across the country, for an overall capacity of 500 MW.
