The Energy Efficiency structure is in charge of all energy auditing processes, and it plans, finances, implements and monitors energy efficiency measures in stations, workshops and railway infrastructure, in close collaboration with FS Group Companies.
Some of these activities include energy consumption analysis, energy retrofitting and system replacement measures, energy flow optimisation, and Energy Efficiency Certificates (EECs) management, with the aim of reducing energy requirements and improving the operational and environmental performance of the infrastructure.
In this context, FS Energy is set to gradually operate as an ESCo (Energy Service Company), by setting EPC contracts (Energy Performance Contracts) in place for direct project funding. Such initiatives may include, where possible, the installation of rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems, combining energy generation and energy efficiency within a single operational model.
By constantly monitoring the energy consumption and environmental performance, Energy Efficiency structurally reduces the energy requirements, improves the environmental performance of the railway infrastructure, and strengthens the overall railway system sustainability.
