The objective of FS Energy and FS Group - the country’s largest electricity consumer, accounting for around 2% of national demand - is decarbonising the energy consumption by developing renewable energy plants, and reaching 1.1 GW of installed capacity by 2029, equivalent to approximately 20% of the Group’s consumption, and 2 GW by 2034, amounting to 40% of total consumption. Furthermore, by implementing energy efficiency measures, a 30% reduction of the energy consumption is expected by 2030.
FS Energy acts as the only centre of competence responsible for all Companies within the FS Group, and coordinates the development of energy-related activities. In particular:
FS Energy is tasked with leading FS Group’s energy transition through an integrated portfolio of solutions for the generation and supply of energy from renewable sources.
The main goal is building an energy system that can power railway traction directly, by connecting the plants to electrical substations and strengthening the integration between generation and consumption. Looking ahead, FS Energy’s contribution will make the Italian rail system an increasingly self-sufficient, sustainable and strategically independent electric mobility model.
