FS Energy’s Foggia solar power plant, built with RFI and FS Engineering’s technical support, was inaugurated in June 2025 and has an installed capacity of 3 MWp.
The asset is configured as a ground-mounted farm with a fixed angled structure - a solution that reduces mechanical complexity and facilitates maintenance work over time – and consists of over 6,600 460 W monocrystalline modules, arranged in a layout that takes into account local irradiation and the site’s conditions.
The solar plant is expected to generate approximately 4,520 MWh of annual power. The direct current (DC) energy produced is converted into alternating current (AC) by 8 x 350 kW inverters, installed on-site to minimise losses and optimise the photovoltaic strings’ operation.
The Foggia photovoltaic plant is connected directly to the railway substation (SSE) to integrate renewable energy production with the energy requirements of rail operations, with operational benefits in terms of energy flow management and a reduction in the power withdrawn from the national grid. The SSE is the energy conversion and distribution hub. It converts high-voltage electricity into a form suitable for traction, regulating the voltage and the power supply parameters of the contact line
The use of digital design for the photovoltaic plant in Foggia has optimised every step of the process, improving design quality and reducing time and operational risks. Thanks to the digital model, made possible by Building Information Modeling (BIM), it has been possible to achieve a more effective integration of the plant within the territory, favouring a better landscape integration and reduced environmental impact.
