First photovoltaic system connected to a railway substation inaugurated in Padua

The Padua solar power plant, which came into operation on 28 March 2025, is the first to be directly connected to the Padua Railway Substation. By connecting the solar farm directly to the substation, the energy produced is conveyed to the railway and to the traction network, marking a significant step forward in integrating renewable energy generation with the railway infrastructure.

The plant, built on the ground on fixed angled structures, covers approximately 65,000 m² and comprises over 9,000 modules, with a total capacity of 4.4 MW and an estimated annual output of 4.8 GWh. 12 x 300 kVA inverters transform the power from direct current to alternating current.

The solar farm is part of FS Group’s wider self-generation programme from renewable sources, aimed at reducing the energy withdrawn from the electricity grid and contributing to the decarbonisation process. And the project to redevelop the former Campo Marte railway areas – also in Padua – holds even greater significance, as the solar park is complemented by urban regeneration works, new green spaces and improvements to the local road network.
